Sustainable Schools Initiative

The Medina Valley Centre and the Footprint Trust have teamed up to deliver a programme for schools as part of the Sustainable Schools Initiative on the Isle of Wight.

Currently supported by the Isle of Wight Council, Medina Valley Centre is working in partnership with the Footprint Trust to provide support for Island schools working towards Eco-Schools and Sustainable Schools status. The programme includes visit to schools or study sites using our mobile environmental studies unit, Eco Challenger and is FREE to schools that are registered on the Eco Schools programme.

Padina pavonica, the Peacock's Tail seaweed, is a brown alga commonly found throughout southern Europe and the Mediterranean. It's northern geographical limits extend to the south coast of England, where intertidal populations are now known in Devon, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.
MVC tutor, Dr Roger Herbert, is co-ordinating research into this UK BAP priority species.
