Weather & Climate

The Medina Valley Centre has had an automatic weather station since 1994 and was updated in 2004. It is situated on the roof of the main building and data is logged onto the computer every 15 minutes and is uploaded onto our website every two hours, allowing the most recent data to be accessed.

Medina Valley Centre has also taken temperature and rainfall readings from the Stevenson's Screen 1980. In addition, Mr. D. Simmons kindly supplements our records with those from his weather station at Shide, Newport, Isle of Wight. He is a member of the Climate Observers Link, who have classified his weather station as 'B' and given it an exposure rating of 4.

A 'B' category station has a standard Stevenson's screen with standard maximum and minimum thermometers, and official pattern rain gauge. Exposure '4' is described as rather 'sheltered', 5 being average (a very exposed site is allocated 9 and a very sheltered site 0. Sunshine is recorded by an Electronic Sunshine Recorder (R&D Electronics).
