Safety

G Hartland (2006)

Medina Valley Centre has an outstanding record for the safety and security of pupils and teachers and operates under strict safety policies and procedures. Medina Valley Centre is AALA (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) recognised for sailing and canoeing (licence number R0308).

Medina Valley Centre is CRB compliant and each member of staff wears an identification badge. Visiting teachers and party leaders are also required to wear a Medina Valley Centre badge. On site security is to a high standard and CCTV is in operation.

Risk Assessments, which comply with the DfES guidelines, are written for each activity and students are encouraged to assess the risks for each activity themselves, before being given a safety brief from the Centre’s staff.

Offsite fieldwork is carried out to a high safety standard. The study sites are carefully chosen and are well known and regularly used by Medina Valley Centre staff. Field study tutors are all First Aid qualified and carry a First Aid Kit at all times, along with a bivvy bag, throw line and mobile telephone.
