John Muir Award 'EXPLORE' activities at Medina Valley Centre

Through a variety of ‘hands-on’ activities and investigations, children explore some of the habitats in the Centre's Nature Reserve and alongside the Medina estuary. These include:

  • bird watching alongside the estuary
  • investigating worms in the estuary mud
  • mapping habitats using the Centre's nature trail
  • listening out for bats on a night hike
  • trapping moths for identification
  • carrying out OPAL's Biodiversity survey
  • observational drawings of a plant or insect
  • scavenger hunts
  • 'eco' art using leaves and tree bark
