Environmental & Outdoor Education Programmes

Residential Programmes

Many schools stay for 4 nights since this gives time for children to settle and get the most out of a residential experience; however, we are happy to accommodate groups for one night or a whole week.  Programmes at Medina Valley Centre are always designed in consultation with your own school’s staff, depending on your children’s needs and interests and the purpose of your visit.

A programme usually contains:

  • outdoor activities (such as orienteering or open canoeing)
  • learning about the environment (through sensory games or structured fieldwork enquiries)
  • working in teams
  • recreational times
  • 'reflect, review'  (active reviewing games and awarding of certificates)

All groups are also encouraged to participate in the John Muir Award scheme. The ethos of the scheme fits perfectly with our approach, enthusing and enabling children to encounter the wonder and diversity of the natural world…something that we hope will stay with them for the rest of their lives. It also provides teachers a framework for integrating work done during the visit into long term planning for learning through the ‘Discover’, ‘Explore’, ‘Conserve’ and ‘Share’ sections of the award.
