GCSE Geography on the Isle of Wight

Article Image
66 GCSE Geography students from two schools in the Home Counties (Tormead School, Guildford & The Towers School, nr Brighton) stayed at the Centre during the past week. Both schools carried out the fieldwork for the Coastal Zone investigation focussing on a coastal protection scheme, detailed by the AQA 'A' exam board.

The lively south-west wind and resulting high energy waves provided the perfect conditions for collecting primary data at the coastline of the longest and most active populated landslip zone in north-west Europe.

Comments from the students included:

"I loved every minute of it; it was nice to be out of the classroom"
"The field course was very helpful and I learnt lots of things that weren't clear in the classroom"

Comments from the accompanying staff:

"Excellent teaching" and "I can't wait till next year!"
