Local Ponds

We regularly survey 3 ponds with visiting groups, who are adding to our long term dataset.

Dickson's Copse Pond

is an old large pond in the local woodland, subject to low light levels and lots of leaf litter.

Dodnor Creek Pond

is also an old large pond. However, it is subject to an influx of salt water from the Medina estuary, making it a unique brackish environment.

The Centre pond

  • was constructed in 1986, has a butyl rubber liner and over the years has been colonised by a diverse range of aquatic plants and animals. An ongoing record is kept of the plant and animal life as well as abiotic measurements.
